Mummy blogger and founder of The Modern Mumma Mel Watts is sharing her struggle with post-natal anxiety to pass along a simple but powerful message:
“It’s okay if you’re not okay.”
“Today, I walked out of Kmart, mid-anxiety attack, looking for a bathroom,” the mother of four posted to Facebook yesterday, along with a photograph of her with her newborn son Sonny George.
This isn’t the first time Watts has suffered post-natal anxiety and although she’s tried to soldier on, following the birth of Sonny last Monday, she’s making a decision now to seek help.
“This time I’m on top of it and I’m off to get help before it becomes my life again,” her post reads.
“I tried so hard to push myself through it and I’m exhausted. I need sleep. Recognising and acknowledging it is far more than what I’ve done in the past.”
Watts told her followers that she shared her concerns with her husband and booked an appointment with her psychologist.
“The reason I’m telling you this is because even though my photos, my posts, and even my snaps all seem pretty normal, you actually have no idea what’s going on in someone’s head.”
Stresses Watts: “Know it’s okay not to be okay, as long you get the help you need!”
Her message is being heard: The post has been shared more than 4,000 times and has received hundreds of comments.
